History of Friends of Wilmington Parks
|
In
1991, a group of Wilmingtonians became inspired
by the renaissance of parks elsewhere in the nation.
They organized the Friends Society of Brandywine
Park and formed a public/private partnership with
the City of Wilmington, New Castle County and
the State of Delaware to restore and maintain
the park.
Later, other parks were included,
and the organization became the Friends of Wilmington
Parks. Its accomplishments include:
• South Park Drive renovation
- Read
the October 28, 2004 News Journal article
concerning the renovation and the ongoing
maintenance of this area.
• Jasper Crane Rose Garden
renovation - Read
about the relocation of the Bringhurst Fountain
to its new home overlooking the Brandywine.
