A breezy, sunny evening in the glorious Jasper Crane Rose Garden
was enjoyed by over 250 guests who attended this
annual fundraiser benefiting the Brandywine Park
gem. Colorful streamers fluttered in the warm breeze
and were the perfect accent to the beautiful blooming
roses.
This year’s event was dedicated
to the late Alberta “Bert” Melloy, who
died in 2010. Bert was the wife of FOWP Development
Director Joe Melloy and nationally recognized in
the fields of American decorative arts guiding,
horticulture and flower arranging. In addition to
raising six children, Bert was active in politics
and community service for many years. She received
Jefferson Awards in 2009 and 2010 for her significant
community service efforts.
Bernadette Milbourne and her staff
provided a plentiful supply of hors d’oeuvres
and Mike Dodson’s special pink libation was
a crowd favorite. Ticket sales were brisk for the
numerous and varied raffle items. Singer/guitarist
Bob Croce had feet tapping with a mix of old and
new, including Huddie Ledbetter’s blues classic,
“Alberta.”
Thanks to all who lent support
to this event!
